ACME Music City Triathlon
July 27, 2010
This past weekend was the ACME Music City Triathlon. It was a very hot day and our club members did very good under those conditions. Martin Capistran got second overall in the beginners category in the intermediate distance and our recent graduate Armin Orucevic got 4th in the 20-24 age group in the same distance. Ryan Wilson got 6th in the 16-19 age group in the sprint distance triathlon. Tiago was not having a good day and did not complete the race.

Next up for our triathlon club members is the Fall Creek Falls Triathlon on August 15th.

Mach Tenn Triathlon
June 8, 2010
On June 5th we had the Mach Teen Triathlon, once again it was a great race, very well organized and great volunteer support. It was not wetsuit legal and it got warm very quickly. Our club members had a great day and grabbed many awards. Tiago Barreira was first overall, Gregory Garcia was 2nd overall, and Steve Schmidt was 3rd in the masters category. Martin Capistran, Armin Orucevic, and John Thomas were 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the 20-24 category. Chad Massey was 4th in the 35-39 category and Scott Jordan was 12th in the 50-54 category.

The beginning of the season has been great for our club and we hope to keep doing well in the upcoming races.

McMinnville City Tri
May 30, 2010
This weekend was a great weekend for racing and the club members took advantage of it. A few of our club members participated in the McMinnville City Tri which had a 200m swim, 11.5 mile bike, and 2 mile run. Ryan Wilson was 3rd in the 16-19 age group, this was only his second triathlon. Martin Capistran was 2nd in the 20-24 age group. Tiago Barreira competed in a relay and the relay finished 3rd in the coed category.

Training at the Mach Tenn Course
May 13, 2010
Looks like the weather will be ok, so the plan it to do three loops at the bike course. The first one starting at 8 am, this will be the faster loop and we will average 19+ mph, the second loop will start at 9 am and this will be a little slower, probably in the 16-18 mph range, and the last loop will start at 10 am and we will keep the group together, so we will go as slow as the slowest person goes.

Following the bike, we will get in the water and swim. The water might be a little chili so wearing a wetsuit will be a good idea, but it can probably be done without one.

Make sure you bring liquids and food because we will not be close to any place that you can buy food.

Make sure you get there a few minutes before you plan to start. Here is the map with directions from Murfreesboro.

Weekend update
May 11, 2010
This past weekend we had club members race in two different races. At the inaugural Rev3 Olympic in Knoxville, Micaiah, Armin, and Patrick did a great job representing the team. Armin and Micaiah both got 4th in their age group, 20-24 and 25-29 respectively.

Further from home there was Gulf Coast Triathlon. Once again it was a hot day and like every year Gregory was there to represent our team. He had a solid race and once again was under 5 hours.

Next we have McMinnville on May 29th and Mach Tenn on June 5th. If you are not racing make sure to sign up to volunteer and if you are racing Mach Teen make sure you check out the site for training sessions on the course.

Race updates
April 21st
Last weekend was a great weekend for the club. We had Micaiah and Armin competing and doing a good job at the Collegiate Nationals. They faced really adverse weather that resulted at a shortening of the swim from 1500 to 500m due to cold waters.
We also had four current members and two possible club members competing at the Adi Pi-athlon at MTSU. Out of those six participants, four were doing their first triathlon ever. We had great performances from our club members. Tiago was first overall, Martin was second in his age group, and Patrick was third in his age group.

Club meeting
January 25, 2010
Last Friday we had a very productive meeting. A few of the old members and a few people that were interested in getting more information about the club showed up, a total of nine people were present.

I explained the benefits of joining the club, which include: financial support from MTSU, discounts from our sponsors, the ability to use our equipment, and more importantly make friends and have them provide support for your athletic endeavors. I talked a little about the races around the area and said I would post some of them in the website calendar, and the races are already added.

If you are planning on doing any of the races let me know so I can add to the list of members participating at each race.

We also talked about a time where we can meet to practice as a group and the possibility of creating a message board to post practice times and for club members communication. I'm working on figuring out the best way for club members communication, there are a few options like using google wave, facebook, and creating a message board. I will give an update on the situation soon.

Right now the practice times are as follow:

Swimming - Tue/Thu from 7:30 to 8:30am at the Rec Center. Micaiah will be there in the mornings.

Running - Tue/Thu starting at 1:30pm at the Murphy Center indoor track. I will be there during those days. There is also a possibility for running practices on Friday.

Biking - No schedule practices at this time.

We are on our way to have a great season with more members than ever before. Let your friends know about the club and start practicing to get in shape for the upcoming races.

GJCC has changed location
January 25, 2010
Here is the information given by Team-Magic:
Team Magic Kicks Off Triathlon Season With A Change in TN. McMinnville Tri Replaces GJCC.
Come join us for our 8th year in the great community of McMinnville. New this year - we have shortened the distances and changed the date due to the cancelation of our GJCC Memorial Day Triathlon that has been held in Nashville for the past five years. The wildly successful sellout GJCC Triathlon has unfortunately been canceled by our host facility due to staff changes. We loved working with them and will miss them of course. For those of you that have never been to McMinnville, it is only about 75 miles southeast of Nashville and the race is starting at 8:30 am to give morning arrivals a little more time!
Team Magic wants to continue offering an early season beginner friendly option so the nice folks at McMinnville have agreed to make the date/distance adjustment.
The new race distances will be just like the GJCC for the swim at 200 meters and the run at 2 miles. The bike course will be slightly longer at 10.5 miles but an easier course than GJCC.

This event is in our calendar.

Friday meeting
January 20, 2010
We will have our first meeting on Friday at 4pm at the second floor of the Rec Center. If you are not a student and plan on coming to the meeting please let me know so I can leave you name at the front desk so you don't have to pay to get in.

We will be deciding on practice times for the semester, what races we are going to do, I will be sharing information about our sponsors, and make plans for uniforms purchases.

I hope to see you there,

Tiago
